Boy Survived 5-inch Kitchen Knife Stabbed Through His Skull

This harrowing picture shows an X-ray of a 15-year-old boy's skull after a five inch knife was plunged into his head.

Amazingly the teenager survived the stabbing and ten months on from the attack has enrolled in college.

The boy and two other youngsters were attacked when they tried to stop a friend being robbed at a bus stop in Walworth, south London.

Shocking: Robbers plunged this five inch blade into a 15-year-old boy's head

The muggers responded by using a kitchen knife to stab one of the boys in the forehead, another twice in the back and a third in the shoulder.

He survived because he was rushed to hospital with the knife still sticking out of his head and doctors managed to operate in time.

X-rays released by police show how deep the knife penetrated, while still missing the boy's brain. Surgeons said if anyone had tried to take it out he would have died.

The boy's two friends also recovered after the attack outside Tesco in the Old Kent Road on 28 November.

Horrific: Amazingly the teenager survived this knife attack and has now enrolled in college

One of the muggers dropped a hat and his mobile at the scene and was arrested later at his home.

The boy, 17, was found guilty at Inner London Crown Court last week of attempted murder and two counts of GBH with intent.

He will be sentenced next month. Officers are still hunting the other two attackers.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man is in a serious condition after being stabbed repeatedly in Dudden Hill Lane in Willesden early today

There's one in South Korea.

And Palma Nova has one called Katmandu.

There's an upside down White House in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and one in Orlando too (thx raevenfeather).

And, of course, there's also one in Japan.

Dont let your eyes die!!!

The first thing you notice after you step into 'visakha eye hospital' is a big poster on the wall in which u can see a little boy who stands close to a big slice of watermelon, and says..."WOOOW, RED???? Whats red???" The thing that touches you is... "Yes, he is blind". Well, not only him, many others in this world just feel and imagine something which we can really see.

We get a lot of dreams, isn't? But have u ever thought what those people dream of? They always dream of things which they never were able to see, they dream of having eyes to see everything that they always assumed to be there. Lets gift them a precious gift, lets make their dream come true.

"Let us donate eyes...., dont let the most beautiful thing die along with u. Let it live..."

Just imagine how happy they will feel when one day they wake up and open their eyes to see everything which they only dreamt of seeing!!!!!!

New Mersenne Prime Number Discovered: Its 13 Million Digits Long!

UCLA mathematician Edson Smith and colleagues have found a really, really large prime number: it’s 13 million digits long!

The group found the 46th known Mersenne prime last month on a network of 75 computers running Windows XP. The number was verified by a different computer system running a different algorithm. [...]

Mersenne primes — named for their discoverer, 17th-century French mathematician Marin Mersenne — are expressed as 2P-1, or two to the power of "P" minus one. P is itself a prime number. For the new prime, P is 43,112,609.

Thousands of people around the world have been participating in the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search, or GIMPS, a cooperative system in which underused computing power is harnessed to perform the calculations needed to find and verify Mersenne primes.

To visualize how large the prime number 243,112,609 - 1 really is, if you print out the number at 75 digits per line and 50 lines per page, it would be almost 3,500 pages long!

Coin Lamp

This lamp by designer Jethro Macey requires you to insert a coin before it lights up.

Coin Lamp is the first product in a range based on the concept of values and reward, it subtly heightens awareness of consumption through design.

No need to be subtle about it. This is exactly what I need to teach my kids not to leave every light in the house on! Put these in every room, and you can use the coins to help pay for the electricity bill at the end of the month.

No More Needles: New Needle-Free Syringe Invention

Psst, needlephobics! (You know who you are!) Are you afraid of shots? Investor Yoshio Oyama has invented something for you: a convenient needle-free syringe that use air pressure to deliver drugs.

Dead Star, a Sculture by Michel de Broin

"Dead Star" is a sculpture by Michel de Broin made from used up batteries:

Dead Star is made from residual battery at the end of their duty. Left to itself, the sculpture will slowly cool down since there is no longer electronic activity taking place in it. The hundreds of batteries were once used to power appliances before they finish their cycle in a recycle facility. Retrieve from death, they were assembled again in this whole structure.

Chinese Astronaut Makes Nation’s First Spacewalk

BEIJING — A Chinese astronaut orbiting the earth slipped out of the Shenzhou VII spacecraft Saturday afternoon and performed the nation's first spacewalk, establishing another milestone in China's space program.

Zhai Zhigang, a 41-year-old Chinese astronaut who is traveling with two others in space, pulled himself out of the orbiting module at 4:40 p.m. Beijing time, latched himself to a handrail and then waved to a national audience during a live broadcast of the country's third manned space mission.

"I am here greeting the Chinese people and the people of the world," Mr. Zhai said, waving to a camera attached to the module.

The feat was another big step in this country's effort to establish a space station by 2020 and eventually to land on the moon. Only two other countries, Russia and the United States, have launched men into space.

For Chinese government, which is devoting extensive media coverage to its manned space missions, the achievement is also another step toward establishing the country as an economic and technological super power.

President Hu Jintao was in space command center in Beijing today, watching the first space walk, and he attended a pre-launching ceremony on Thursday, when three of the country's astronauts were preparing for a three-day mission.

After pulling himself fully out of the orbiting module and tethering himself to a cord, Zhai Zhigang was handed the Chinese national flag, and while floating in space with one hand on the hand rail, he waved the red flag with his right hand, to the cheers of technicians in the central command center in Beijing.

Another astronaut, Liu Boming, briefly poked his hand and part of his body out of the module, becoming the second Chinese astronaut to touch outer space, while a third astronaut stayed behind in case of an emergency.

Though it is called a space walk, the astronauts are simply floating in space. Mr. Zhai floated slightly above the Shenzhou VII space craft for about 18 minutes before pulling himself back in and securing the door.

10 Incredible Underground Lakes and Rivers [pics]

Reed Flute Cave in Guilin, China was discovered during the Tang Dynasty almost 1,300 years ago. Image by Ian Sewell

Far below the Earth’s surface, where the sun rarely penetrates, is a world of twinkling glow worms, precious gems and limestone caves and mountains, a land inhabited by nature alone. Within this world are visions to rival many landscapes decorating our horizon; lakes lie still and calm, great networks of caves know no borders and rivers and rivulets carve an ever-evolving terrain.

We invite you to explore this remarkable subterranean domain through these incredible images we’ve complied for your viewing pleasure.

1. Cheddar Gorge is Britain’s biggest canyon and is found within the Cheddar Caves, where the UK’s oldest complete human skeleton was found in 1903. Known as the Cheddar Man, the remains were estimated to be 9,000 years old.

2. Hamilton Pool Preserve, in Austin, Texas, was created quite naturally when the dome of an underground cave collapsed revealing this stunning natural pool. It is now frequented by day-trippers and naturalists. That’s naturalists not naturists, although no doubt someone has tried to go skinny dipping at one point!
