A thin scarf is used in dustier climate or in areas with airbone contaminants. Theyre worn over the head to keep the hair clean. In religious purpose, islam women wear a head scarf called as khimar. This promote modest dress among women. In cold climates, a thick knitted scarf (wool) or mufflers is often tied around the neck to keep warm. This is usually accompanied by a warm hat and heavy coat. For europian style, shawls are worn over coats for extra warmth.

In fashion, a scarf be used as a casual necklace, its a nice accent under a shirt collar, over a turtle neck or t-shirt. It can be used as a chic head wrap by folding two corners in and folding again. They can cover the hair too by folding into a triangle. A scarf makes hat more festive. It can also be used as colorful belt, a pareo around the waist. During summer it can be used as a sarong to cover up bathing suit. No matter how you use scarf it should look natural.
